Mexico aims for strong start against South Africa in World Cup opener

Mexico's national football team will open the tournament with a match against South Africa at the Estadio Azteca. Coach Javier Aguirre said the squad is ready to "have a great day" and break the country's streak of seven opening‑match defeats in World Cups. He noted that most of the players sidelined by injuries have recovered and that the team will respect the quality of the South African side, which Mexico drew 1‑1 with in the 2010 opening game.

Aguirre emphasized that the 26‑man roster is motivated and that any of the players could be selected to start. He also recalled his previous coaching experience in Spain and expressed confidence that the team can deliver a positive result for the home fans.
