Mexico coach Javier Aguirre's competition praised by Sanchez and Chavez ahead of World Cup

Right‑back Jorge Sánchez of PAOK and left‑back Mateo Chávez of AZ Alkmaar said the internal competition for places fostered by Mexico head coach Javier "el Vasco" Aguirre strengthens the national team as it prepares for the World Cup starting on June 11.

Sánchez, who rejoined the squad this week, highlighted his experience in Europe and domestic success, noting his recent inclusion will help the team in its final friendly against Ghana. Chávez, a 22‑year‑old newcomer, emphasized the need to battle for a starting role, learning from veteran Jesús Gallardo and aiming to earn his spot through daily effort.

Both players expressed confidence that the intense rivalry for positions will improve performance and bring fresh energy to the squad for the upcoming tournament.
