Mexico, Colombia Launch Child Protection Tools to Counter Violence

In Aguascalientes, Mexico, the municipal System of Integral Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents (SIPINNA) expanded its preventive actions by promoting the “Violentómetro,” an interactive diagnostic guide that helps the community identify early signs of psychological or physical abuse. The program offers 24‑hour telephone lines (449 910 1099, 449 910 1097) for professional support and confidential reporting.

In Nariño, Colombia, national government agencies, international organizations and local authorities joined forces to prevent the recruitment and use of children by armed groups. The initiative emphasizes sport, culture and life‑project development as alternatives for at‑risk youth. Contractor Zully Bedoya of the Secretariat of Peace highlighted the collaborative effort, stating that it “allows us to protect children effectively.” The program aims to strengthen protective environments and contribute to territorial peace.

Both efforts seek to safeguard children and adolescents by creating early‑warning mechanisms and offering safe, constructive activities to deter involvement in violence.
