Mexico commemorates Independence and the Battle of Chapultepec

Mexico is observing widespread patriotic commemorations for the 216th anniversary of its Independence and the 179th anniversary of the Battle of Chapultepec. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led the official ceremony at the Altar a la Patria, where she performed the honor roll and presented swords to cadets of the Heroic Military College.

Across various states, civil and military authorities held similar ceremonies to honor the Niños Héroes. In Tamaulipas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Veracruz, and Matamoros, officials gathered to pay tribute to the young cadets who defended the nation during the 1847 US intervention. These events emphasized national sovereignty, patriotism, and the values of sacrifice and duty.

In preparation for the national festivities, health authorities in Baja California and Chihuahua have activated special emergency protocols and medical services to ensure public safety during mass gatherings. Additionally, security coordination meetings have been held between federal and state officials, such as in Michoacán, to strengthen institutional capacities during the holiday period.
