Mexico commemorates 215th anniversary of Miguel Hidalgo's execution

Municipal authorities in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, led by Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, held a civic ceremony on the 215th anniversary of Miguel Hidalgo's death. The event featured a floral tribute at the flagpole, a half‑staff flag, and speeches highlighting Hidalgo’s role in Mexico’s independence, the abolition of slavery and land reform.

In Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, municipal and naval officials also marked the anniversary. The ceremony included honors to the national flag, a performance by the 82nd Infantry Battalion band, and remarks from Councilor Noé Báez Cardona and Secretary of the City Hall, Héctor Alfredo García Calderón, who recalled Hidalgo’s execution on July 30, 1811, and his lasting ideals of liberty and justice. Both gatherings underscored the continued relevance of Hidalgo’s legacy for the nation’s democratic and sovereign identity.
