Mexico commemorates Independence anniversary in legislative sessions
The Mexican Chamber of Deputies held a session to commemorate the anniversary of the start of Mexico's Independence. During the event, various political factions expressed their positions regarding national identity and history.
Deputy Gibrán Ramírez Reyes of the PMC referenced the historical context of Miguel Hidalgo, noting that the struggle was directed against oppression rather than against cultural roots. Meanwhile, Miguel Alejandro Alonso Reyes of the PRI emphasized the party's historical role in building national institutions and its commitment to patriotic values.
In Mérida, Yucatán, the Mérida City Council also held a solemn session to mark the anniversary. The ceremony featured historian José Luis Vargas Aguilar, who provided a narrative on the historical significance of the 1810 movement and its relevance to modern societal changes.
