Mexico concludes wildfire suppression mission in Canada

Mexico has concluded its mission to support wildfire suppression efforts in British Columbia, Canada. A total of 411 Mexican combatants and technicians were deployed in four contingents between July 28 and September 10.

The final group of 102 personnel completed their deployment in Okanagan Falls on September 10. Throughout the mission, the brigades performed extensive technical tasks, including opening 12,009 meters of firebreaks using machetes and chainsaws, executing 6,280 meters of direct attacks on flames, and controlling 12,800 meters of perimeter.

Additional operations included the installation of over 34,000 meters of hose, supporting 77 aerial water drops, and felling 101 dangerous trees. The mission was conducted through cooperation between Mexico and the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) to facilitate resource exchange and coordinated fire management. The experience gained is intended to strengthen Mexico's technical capacity for responding to large-scale forest fires in the future.
