Mexico Congress reviews World Cup 2026 infrastructure spending and applauds national team
Members of the Mexico City Congress toured several World Cup 2026‑related works, including the Casa de las “3R”, the Cuemanco pier, the Santa Úrsula Coapa urban improvement program and the rain garden near the City of Mexico Stadium. Led by the Special Commission on Monitoring the 2026 World Cup, the delegation examined public investment amounts, execution timelines and projected beneficiaries, stressing the need to ensure lasting benefits for residents. Legislators from Morena, PAN, Movimiento Ciudadano and PRD promised to issue observations if projects fall short of transparency or efficiency standards.
Separately, the Permanent Commission of the federal Congress issued a formal congratulatory statement to the Mexican national football team, praising its “valor, entrega, gran talento y un excepcional sentido de unidad de equipo” during the 2026 World Cup. The message also lauded the tournament’s organization, highlighted the historic appointment of Katia Itzel García Mendoza as the first female referee in a men’s World Cup match, and celebrated the team’s unbeaten group‑stage run and victory over Ecuador before a narrow loss to England.
