Mexico cuts six players from World Cup 2026 squad as Aguirre critiques cross attempts

Following a 2‑0 friendly victory over Ghana, Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre announced the first six players removed from the World Cup 2026 roster. The omitted players are Óscar García, Denzell García, Luis Rey, Eduardo Águila, Iker Fimbres and Veracruz‑born Isaías Violante.

Aguirre also criticised the team's execution of crosses during the match, citing numerous poorly delivered balls and stating that the tactical work on crossing in training has not translated into effective play. He emphasized that the final 26‑man squad is not yet set, keeping the selection process open as Mexico prepares for upcoming friendlies against Australia and Serbia.

The coach stressed that competition within the pre‑selection pool will continue and that decisions will be made carefully to ensure fairness and readiness for the 2026 World Cup.
