Mexico defeats Czechia 3-0 to stay unbeaten as co-hosts at World Cup 2026

Mexico kept a perfect record in the tournament by beating Czechia 3-0 in their World Cup 2026 group match, guaranteeing top spot in the group and sending the Czechs home. Goals were scored by left‑back Mateo Chávez, forward Jorge Sánchez, Julian Quiñones and substitute Álvaro Fidalgo in injury time.

Seventeen‑year‑old Gilberto Mora became the youngest player to start a World Cup match since 2002, while veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, one month shy of his 41st birthday, made a cameo appearance, becoming the sixth‑oldest player in World Cup history. Coach Javier Aguirre made five changes to his lineup, including the return of César Montes in defence, and noted the emotional significance of the win.

Czechia’s coach Miroslav Koubek left out key attackers Patrik Schick and Tomáš Souček; Souček later injured himself and left the field. The loss ends Czechia’s tournament, while Mexico remains unbeaten as a co‑host nation.
