Mexico Deploys Guardi­a Nacional to 19 Guerrero Communities

Federal and state authorities have deployed elements of the Guardi­a Nacional to at least 19 communities in the La Montaña Alta and Baja regions of Guerrero, covering the municipalities of Chilapa de Álvarez, Olinalá, Atlixtac and Zapotitlán Tablas. The operation is coordinated from a command post in Chilapa and involves 20 government agencies from the three branches of power.

Daily actions include preventive patrols, investigative work and institutional accompaniment to facilitate the return of families displaced by violence. The plan also provides social‑service programmes such as medical and psychosocial care, support for agriculture, youth training, and the reinforcement of schools and health centres. The authorities cite recent incidents in the area, including the killing of two residents in Teticic and the discovery of six dismembered bodies, as justification for the heightened security presence.
