Mexico Deputy Francisco Sánchez Villegas files largest mass amparo against mandatory phone registration

Deputy Francisco Sánchez Villegas, coordinator of the Orange Bench of the Movimiento Ciudadano party, led a massive legal filing in Mexico City to block the government's mandatory registration of cellular lines. The amparo, described by Sánchez as “the biggest amparo in the history of this country,” aims to prevent the cancellation of phone numbers and protect citizens’ privacy rights. Thousands of people gathered in the Hemiciclo to support the request, which seeks a judicial order that no citizen be forced to register a mobile device and calls for a popular consultation on the policy. Sánchez warned that any attempt at mass control will be met with further amparos.
