Mexico Deputy Sergio Gutiérrez Luna accused of extortion

Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies in Mexico, is facing allegations of operating an extortion network involving positions within the National Electoral Institute (INE) and state electoral bodies.

Reports suggest that the legislator allegedly offered job placements and official roles in exchange for kickbacks. According to claims from INE employees and middle management, individuals were reportedly instructed to pay approximately 20 percent of their salary every two weeks to secure these positions. These payments were allegedly facilitated through intermediaries, including members of the Green Ecologist Party.

In response to media coverage of these allegations, Gutiérrez Luna has filed moral damage lawsuits against journalists and the newspaper Excélsior. Meanwhile, employees claiming to be victims have organized a march scheduled for November 9 to protest the alleged scheme.
