Tamaulipas Director and Staff Detained in Dafne Zapata Femicide FAST-MOVING

A 13‑year‑old girl, Dafne Zapata Quintos, died by asphyxiation during a summer camp at the Marina Doenitz military‑style academy in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas. The investigation has led to the detention of the academy’s director, Jorge Luis Ponce Ortega, and two staff members – Estrella Mora (known as “Sargento Estrellita”) and 18‑year‑old former student Danna Yanina – all placed before a control judge.

A judge ordered the details of the initial hearing on 26 July to remain confidential and scheduled the continuation for 30 July at the Centro Integral de Justicia in Altamira. Prison preventive was imposed on both Estrella Mora and Jorge Luis Ponce Ortega while the case continues to be examined, with the victim’s mother, Alejandra Quintos, demanding that all responsible parties be brought to justice.
