Mexico detains suspects in Culiacán over attack on legislators

Federal forces in Mexico arrested two armed men in Culiacán, identified as Gilberto “N” and Andrik “P”, who are alleged to have participated in the January 28 assault on Movimiento Ciudadano legislators Sergio Torres Félix and Elizabeth Montoya Ojeda. Montoya suffered severe facial injuries that required reconstructive surgery.

The operation, coordinated by the Fiscalía General de la República after intelligence from a captured communications operator known as “Radio 13”, resulted in the seizure of a heavy‑weight M60 machine gun, two AK‑47 rifles, more than 500 rounds of ammunition, tactical gear and approximately one thousand fentanyl pills. The detainees were handed over to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office for legal processing.

In a related security deployment, Mexican federal troops and the Army conducted a land‑and‑air operation in Navolato, Sinaloa, using helicopters for aerial reconnaissance and armored Ocelotl vehicles for ground patrols. Authorities have not disclosed the specific objectives or any arrests arising from that operation.
