Mexico and Chile report significant shifts in digital commerce and retail trends

Digital commerce in Latin America is undergoing structural changes. In Mexico, the online retail market reached 941 billion pesos in 2025, a 19.2% increase from the previous year. Data from the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO) indicates that the digital buyer base has grown to 72.2 million people, with 70% of consumers engaging in omnichannel shopping. Experts suggest that brands must now focus on intercepting purchase intent through Retail Media to compete in a landscape where consumer loyalty is declining.

In Chile, ecommerce sales are projected to reach approximately US$ 10.6 billion in 2026, according to the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS). The market is seeing growth across diverse categories, with food and beverages recording US$ 1.76 billion in sales and a 25% real growth rate, while electronics and technology continue to hold the highest volume at roughly US$ 4.6 billion.

Separately, Alsea reported a 2% increase in consolidated third-quarter revenues, totaling 21.397 billion pesos. This growth was driven largely by the Mexican market and improved operations at Starbucks, which saw a 3.1% increase in same-store sales.
