Mexico discount campaigns strain logistics, says Mail Boxes Etc CEO

Discount promotions in Mexico now span online searches, mobile browsing, in‑store pickup and home delivery, creating complex logistical demands. Ilan Epelbaum, chief executive of Mail Boxes Etc, explained that each campaign requires rapid inventory confirmation, order preparation, realistic delivery promises and continuous customer communication. He warned that failures in these steps turn sales into friction for shoppers.

The AMVO reports that discount campaigns can concentrate up to 42.7 million pesos in sales over a few days, while DHL data show that 81 % of online buyers would abandon a purchase if delivery issues arise. Epelbaum stresses that successful phygital promotions need integrated logistics from the campaign design stage, not as an after‑thought.

The analysis highlights the need for retailers to align inventory, packaging, shipping coordination and last‑mile execution to meet consumer expectations in a seamless price‑shopping experience.
