Mexico earmarks over $7 bn for road rehabilitation in Zacatecas, Campeche and Northeast region

The Mexican federal government will allocate 7.113 billion pesos in 2026 to the Northeast region—covering Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas—to rehabilitate 2,110 kilometres of road, create 13,437 jobs and carry out 64 work fronts. In Zacatecas, projects will focus on routes such as R45 (Zacatecas‑Durango), R49 (Zacatecas‑Saltillo) and R54 (Monterrey‑Zacatecas‑Saltillo), as well as an expansion of the "Caminos Artesanales" programme.

Separately, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) will devote 1.55 billion pesos to road work in the state of Campeche. The plan includes 550 million pesos for modernization, 1 billion for conservation, maintenance of 1,155 kilometres of free‑toll roads, and the continuation of a public‑private partnership on the Campeche‑Mérida highway through 2029. A new repaving‑train contract will also begin operations to accelerate surface repairs.
