Mexico Education Minister Mario Delgado urges teachers to end strike

Education Secretary Mario Delgado called on the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) to evaluate the federal government's proposals and return to the classroom so the school year can be completed. He warned that the teachers' strike is affecting thousands of students in the final weeks of the academic calendar.

Delgado highlighted the government's plan to replace the Usicamm system with a new initiative created with teachers' participation, and reiterated the administration's stance against the 2007 ISSSTE pension reform while promoting recent improvements to retirement benefits. He noted that the highest concentration of school closures is in Oaxaca, with over 80% of schools on strike, and also cited disruptions in Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán and Zacatecas. While respecting the right to protest, Delgado said dialogue channels remain open to resolve labour demands without prolonging the mobilisations.
