Mexico: Elderly woman reports disappearance of Bienestar pension funds

A family in Mexico has reported the disappearance of funds from an elderly woman’s Bienestar pension account following the loss of her debit card. Rosa María, a senior citizen with various health issues, had reported her card missing in August of last year. While waiting for a replacement, the family was provided with folios to withdraw funds.

According to her son, José Luis, the account previously held approximately 16,000 pesos, but bank tellers informed them the balance had dropped to just 3.96 pesos. The family alleges that unauthorized withdrawals were made and suspects that certain personnel may be exploiting lost cards. They have sought assistance from the Banco del Bienestar, the Secretaría del Bienestar, and Condusef, but claim they have received no support or guidance regarding the matter.
