Mexico's INE approves Quick Count for 2026-2027 federal elections
The National Electoral Institute (INE) has approved the implementation of a Quick Count for the 2026-2027 federal deputy elections. This mechanism aims to provide citizens, political parties, and media with reliable, statistically rigorous preliminary information regarding voting trends on election night. To support this, the INE approved the creation of the Technical Advisory Committee for Quick Counts (COTECORA), which will consist of 11 experts in statistics, mathematics, and sampling design.
Additionally, the INE has integrated technical committees to evaluate the electoral roll and nominal lists for the 2027 elections. In Querétaro, five institutions, including the IEEQ, the State Judiciary, and the INE, signed a collaboration agreement to coordinate the 2026-2027 electoral process, focusing on information exchange and the investigation of electoral crimes.
At the state level in Tamaulipas, the IETAM announced a budget of 316 million pesos for the 2027 electoral process, noting an increase of approximately 100 million pesos compared to the previous cycle. The institute is currently in the design phase for electoral documentation and ballots.
