Mexico Electoral Tribunal Orders Female Appointment to Oaxaca Audit Office

The Superior Chamber of the Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación (TEPJF) voted to overturn the June appointment of a non‑binary individual as head of the Internal Comptroller of the Oaxaca State Electoral Tribunal (TEEO). Citing constitutional gender‑parity rules and the state’s requirement for alternating gender representation, the court ordered that the position be filled by a woman, emphasizing that alternation cannot be bypassed by appointing a non‑binary person when the law mandates a female successor.

In a separate case, the TEPJF’s Regional Chamber for Mexico City upheld a decision by the Hidalgo State Electoral Tribunal (TEEH) confirming that the municipal authorities of Tlahuelilpan had satisfactorily responded to information requests raised by regidora Yolanda Cruz Rufino. The court found that the provided documents, electronic files and video evidence met the legal standards, and therefore the alleged omission was deemed corrected.
