Mexico emerges as a critical global hub for AI infrastructure and investment

Mexico is rapidly emerging as a critical global hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure and technology investment. The country is seeing significant growth in high-performance computing, with projected investments exceeding $13 billion in data centers. Querétaro has become the national epicenter, accounting for 65% of installed capacity.

Economically, Mexico raised $901.8 million in venture capital during the first half of 2026, driven by sectors such as fintech, insurtech, and AI. The nation has also become a major exporter of servers, with exports increasing 172.1% annually as of June 2026, primarily serving the United States market. This surge in electronic exports is nearly rivaling the automotive sector in total value.

On the corporate side, Mexican companies are increasing their AI budgets, with projections suggesting AI spending could rise from 12% to 21% of technology budgets within three years. While a comprehensive federal AI law remains pending in the Senate, existing regulations regarding data protection, copyright, and criminal codes are already being applied to govern AI use in the country.
