Mexico environmental agencies promote biodiversity and seize illegal wildlife
In Mexico, environmental authorities have conducted separate actions focused on biodiversity and conservation. The Sierra de San Miguelito Area for the Protection of Flora and Fauna (APFF) held its fifth Regional Corn Fair in the Bledos ejido, Villa de Reyes. The event, organized by the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp), aims to conserve agrobiodiversity and promote traditional knowledge regarding corn and the milpa system among local communities.
Separately, the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) seized 23 wildlife specimens in Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico. Following an inspection requested by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), officials found that a facility failed to provide legal documentation for its animals. The seized specimens include 19 Mexican axolotls, which are listed as an endangered species, three veiled chameleons, and one boa constrictor, which is classified as a threatened species.
