Mexico expands arts education programs in primary schools

During June, the Secretaría de Educación y Deporte ran the "Música en mi Escuela" program in Chihuahua state, staging concerts that involved more than 700 children and youth across Aldama, Hidalgo del Parral, Delicias, Ojinaga and Chihuahua city. Ensembles performed chorales and instrumental pieces, showcasing the musical skills students developed throughout the school year.

In Aguascalientes, the Programa de Educación Artística y Cultural (PROARTE) reached 107,593 students in 388 public primary schools between October 2023 and April 2024. The program offers workshops in music, theatre, dance, visual arts, literature and traditional crafts, delivered by 50 specialized teachers. Coordinated by the state cultural and education institutes, PROARTE aims to cover 100 % of public primary schools by the 2026‑2027 school cycle.
