Mexico expands child welfare programs for infants and street children

The State of Querétaro held a comprehensive "Contigo y tu Bebé" event in Corregidora, where Secretary of Social Development Luis Nava oversaw the distribution of food baskets and a suite of services for early childhood, including neurodevelopment, physical therapy, mental health support for mothers, early stimulation, parenting guidance, pediatric care and breastfeeding assistance. Nava said, "Este programa social lo diseñamos para darles las mejores condiciones de salud a las mamás y a sus bebés."

In a separate municipal initiative, Mayor Marco Bonilla and municipal DIF president Karina Olivas promoted the "La Calle No Es Su Lugar" program, aimed at preventing child labor on the streets and ensuring safe spaces for children. The campaign involved outreach at several city intersections, a call for public reporting of vulnerable children, and the provision of food, blankets, and family support. Between January and May, 407 minors were identified and safely returned home, with 10 currently receiving comprehensive care at child‑care centers.
