Mexico expands digital card services for credit applications and welfare payments
Mexican financial institutions are promoting fully digital processes for obtaining and using cards. Online credit‑card applications can now be completed through websites or mobile apps, requiring only a valid ID (INE or passport), a selfie for biometric verification and, in many cases, an immediate approval that allows the card to be used digitally the same day.
The government’s Banco del Bienestar also offers several ways for welfare‑card holders to check their balances without visiting a branch, including ATM queries, a dedicated mobile app, and a toll‑free phone line. The bank has expanded its branch network across all 32 states, improving access for pension and social‑program beneficiaries.
