Mexico expands federal cultural funding in Quintana Roo and Yucatán

The Mexican federal government announced a major increase in cultural funding for the southeastern states of Quintana Roo and Yucatán. In Quintana Roo, allocations for 2024‑2026 more than doubled, rising from 6.1 million to over 13 million pesos, with more than 21 million pesos earmarked for projects that will benefit over 56,000 people across municipalities such as Tulum and Playa del Carmen. The state also signed a cooperation agreement with the National Institute of Anthropology and History to protect cultural heritage.

In Yucatán, federal support grew by 130 percent, climbing from 26 million to 62 million pesos. New calls will back creators, festivals, independent venues and cultural infrastructure, while a national program raised its budget from 174 million to about 300 million pesos, nearly tripling the number of festivals supported country‑wide.
