Mexico Expands Free School Glasses Program for Children

State education authorities in Morelia, Michoacán are urging parents to apply for free glasses for primary‑school students under the national Vive Saludable program. In Mérida, Yucatán, municipal mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada is sponsoring a three‑day free‑vision‑screening campaign, "Ver mejor en tu regreso a clases," from 29 July to 1 August. Children aged 6 to 12 can receive eye exams and prescription glasses at no cost, with eligibility requiring a parent’s voter ID, recent proof of address and the child’s birth certificate. The initiative aims to remove visual barriers that hinder learning and ease the financial burden on families during back‑to‑school season.
