Mexico expands mosquito control operations in Yucatán and La Piedad

The government of Yucatán, led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, will conduct Operativo Costa from 6 to 10 July, deploying 68 brigadists and 34 specialized vehicles to nebulize 1,960 hectares across 16 coastal towns, including Progreso, Celestún and Sisal. The effort targets dengue, Zika and chikungunya vectors during the holiday season and follows earlier statewide larval control and residual spraying.

In the municipality of La Piedad, President Samuel Hidalgo Gallardo has intensified fumigation campaigns against the Culex mosquito. Municipal ecology staff are treating neighborhoods while also cleaning the old Lerma River channel to eliminate breeding sites. Residents are urged to keep patios and containers free of standing water to support the preventive measures.
