Mexico expands municipal police training and gender‑violence education

The Secretariat of Public Security of Acapulco, together with the Municipal Institute for Women, concluded a multi‑week training program titled “The Right of Women to a Life Free of Violence.” Forty municipal police officers received instruction on gender‑based violence, harassment, psychological impacts on victims and related legal frameworks.

In Ecatepec, the municipal police academy was completely renovated with a 20 million‑peso investment to meet the national “Certification A” standards set by the Secretariat of the National Security System. The new facilities include dormitories for 100 officers, classrooms, a live‑fire shooting range, tactical house, rappel area, armory, and dining services, and will accommodate up to 380 cadets. Both initiatives are part of broader efforts to professionalize municipal police forces, improve respect for human rights, and combat impunity and corruption.
