Mexico expands Rosario Castellanos University enrollment and infrastructure
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has announced a plan to double the enrollment of the Universidad Nacional Rosario Castellanos (UNRC) to at least 240,000 students by 2030. The expansion is part of a federal strategy to increase public higher education access through in-person, semi-presential, and distance learning models.
In Hidalgo, a new campus in Tecozautla has opened with approximately 300 students studying Medicine, Community Tourism, Administration and Commerce, and Law and Criminology. Plans are underway to add an Agroecological Sciences and Sustainable Livestock degree by 2027 and construct additional buildings to support specialized training.
In Michoacán, the state government is investing over 262 million pesos to construct and consolidate three UNRC campuses in Múgica, Zacapu, and Zitácuaro. The investment includes the construction of auditoriums, nursing and medicine complexes, and classroom buildings to expand educational options in these municipalities.
