Mexico expands services and benefits for senior citizens

The municipal government of Mineral de la Reforma in Hidalgo reinaugurated the Club del Adulto Mayor Chacón, with Mayor Eduardo Medécigo Rubio and Samantha Esparza Hernández highlighting the centre as a hub for social interaction, physical activity, and educational programs for older residents.

The federal INAPAM programme announced a new employment link for senior citizens holding an INAPAM credential. Through the Servicio de Vinculación Productiva, seniors can be placed in formal jobs that provide statutory benefits, including the mandatory Christmas bonus (aguinaldo) of fifteen days' wages, health insurance and other rights under Mexican labour law. The initiative aims to increase economic inclusion and combat age discrimination.

Both measures are presented as steps to improve the quality of life, social integration and financial security of Mexico’s growing elderly population.
