Mexico expands solar energy programs in Puebla and northern states

Governmental initiatives in Mexico are expanding solar energy access through community works and welfare programs. In Puebla, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier delivered 31 community works in the Sierra Oriental region, involving an investment of over 8.9 million pesos. The state is also implementing the ‘Generación Solar en Edificios Públicos’ project, which utilizes locally manufactured panels to provide energy to 1,500 schools.

Simultaneously, the Secretariat of Energy (Sener) is executing the ‘Techos Solares para el Bienestar 2026’ program. This initiative focuses on combating energy poverty by installing free photovoltaic systems in vulnerable households across Baja California and Sonora. The program aims to benefit up to 10,000 homes, offering potential electricity bill savings of up to 85% during summer months. Eligible applicants must meet specific consumption, residency, and vulnerability criteria.
