Mexico Extends Deadline for SIM‑CURP Registration to End of 2024

Mexico’s telecommunications regulator has pushed the deadline for linking mobile SIM cards to the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) by 184 days, moving the final cut‑off to December 31, 2024. The staggered schedule ties registration windows to the last digit of each phone number; for example, numbers ending in 0 must be registered by mid‑August, while those ending in 9 have until the end of December. Failure to register will result in a 72‑hour service suspension, after which the provider will restore service once compliance is confirmed.

The agency reports that roughly 63 million of the 144 million mobile lines have already been linked, leaving about 81 million still pending. The measure aims to curb fraud and improve law‑enforcement access to subscriber data.
