Ekene Anigbo convicted of manslaughter in Naramata killing
In a Kelowna Supreme Court decision, Ekene Anigbo was convicted of two counts of manslaughter rather than first-degree murder for the 2021 killing of Kathleen Richardson in Naramata. Justice Alison Beames ruled that while the Crown proved Anigbo and co-conspirator Jalen Falk were present in Richardson’s home and had restrained her, it could not be determined which individual fired the shots that killed her.
Falk had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the case. The incident was linked to a wider gangland conspiracy involving the B.C. drug trade, intended to locate Richardson’s son, Wade Cudmore. The court found that Anigbo “knew or ought to have known” that bodily harm was a probable consequence of the armed break-in.
In a separate, unrelated legal matter, a man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 2017 kidnapping and manslaughter of Richard ‘Blair’ Young on Vancouver Island.
