Mexico faces economic and judicial challenges under current administration

Economic and judicial developments in Mexico present significant challenges for the current administration and the Fourth Transformation (4T) movement. Regarding labor, there has been a notable increase in the minimum wage, reaching 315.04 pesos generally and 440.87 pesos in the Northern Border Free Zone in 2026. To ensure sustainable economic growth and dignified wages, it is suggested that the government must treat micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises as allies.

Simultaneously, concerns are being raised regarding the independence of the judiciary following constitutional reforms. Critics argue that the loss of judicial independence and the perceived political influence over legal institutions could impact investor confidence. This instability is compounded by concerns over aggressive tax collection and corruption within customs authorities, which may deter both domestic and foreign capital investment.
