Mexico faces economic stagnation and judicial uncertainty
Legislators from the PRI have raised alarms regarding Mexico’s current economic state, citing a stagnant economy, increased labor informality, and a public debt that has nearly doubled over the last eight years. During discussions on the government report, representatives argued that the country must prioritize practical economic decisions over ideological narratives to support family finances.
Key concerns highlighted include the vulnerability of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, which lack sufficient credit and industrial protection. Additionally, reports indicate that over 41 million people live in working poverty, and approximately 1.25 million workers withdrew funds from their retirement savings (Afores) between January and July 2026.
Parallel to these economic issues, the judicial system faces criticism for a lack of legal certainty. Critics argue that recent judicial reforms have replaced technical expertise with hyper-formalism, creating a crisis that impacts investment and security. The difficulty in navigating the legal system and the perceived lack of protection for private property are cited as factors that increase country risk and discourage both national and foreign capital.
