Mexico Chamber of Deputies approves 2024 Public Account

The Mexican Chamber of Deputies has approved the 2024 Public Account, covering the final year of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration. The decision was reached with 321 votes in favor from the Morena coalition and its allies, and 117 votes against from the PAN, PRI, and Movimiento Ciudadano.

The Superior Auditor of the Federation (ASF) identified irregularities exceeding 67 billion pesos. Of this amount, approximately 65 billion pesos remain unclarified, representing about 97 percent of the observed total. Only around 2 billion pesos, or 3 percent, have been recovered.

Of the unclarified funds, 5.8 billion pesos were exercised directly by the Federal Public Administration, while the vast majority—over 91 percent—corresponds to federalized spending managed by states and municipalities. Key sectors facing observations include Pemex, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), and the health sector.
