Mexico Federal Scholarships Reach 22 Million Students in Rita Cetina Program

Federal deputy Elda Castillo announced that the Rita Cetina scholarships have been extended to more than 22 million students nationwide, backed by an investment of over 160 million pesos. The program aims to reduce school‑dropout rates and will be complemented by the creation of the Universidad Rosario Castellanos and the Universidad de la Salud.

Castillo also highlighted the "Escuela es Nuestra" initiative, which channels direct resources to parent committees for school‑infrastructure projects, laboratories and equipment. The government plans to phase out the teacher‑career unit (UC SIC) and replace it with a consensually designed teacher‑evaluation platform. Additionally, a new protocol for the Operativo Mochila was presented, requiring joint participation of parents, teachers and students in the inspection of pupils’ belongings.
