Mexico FGR seeks forfeiture of assets from former Tabasco security official

The Attorney General's Office (FGR) of Mexico has initiated asset forfeiture proceedings against former Tabasco Public Security Secretary Hernán Bermúdez Requena and two of his family members. The FGR is seeking to seize 2.24 million pesos held in bank accounts linked to the individuals.

Authorities attribute 1.387 million pesos to Bermúdez Requena, who is alleged to be the leader of the criminal group ‘La Barredora’. The funds were seized as a precautionary measure because their legitimate origin could not be verified. Bermúdez Requena is currently held in the Altiplano federal prison and faces multiple criminal charges in Tabasco, including extortion, kidnapping, and embezzlement.

A second legal action targets 853,000 pesos held in accounts belonging to Bermúdez Requena’s wife, Verónica Encalada Pérez, and his brother, Humberto Bermúdez Requena. If the court approves the forfeiture, the funds will be transferred to the state treasury without requiring a final criminal conviction.
