Mexico Files Antitrust Complaint Against Sony Over End of Physical Game Discs

Federal deputy Iraís Reyes and senator Luis Donaldo Colosio of the Movimiento Ciudadano announced they will file a complaint with Mexico's National Competition Commission. The complaint seeks an investigation into Sony Interactive Entertainment's plan to cease production of physical game discs starting in January 2028, a move that would affect both Sony's own titles and those of third‑party publishers.

The legislators argue the decision could make the PlayStation Store the sole venue for purchasing games, limiting consumer choice. "If the discs disappear, PlayStation owners will no longer be able to choose where to buy their games and will be forced to purchase exclusively via Sony's store," Reyes said. The filing asks authorities to determine whether Sony is abusing its market dominance in an anti‑competitive manner.
