Mexico flag football teams compete for Olympic spots in Germany

The Mexican national flag football teams are competing in the IFAF World Flag 2026 championship in Dusseldorf, Germany, from August 13 to 16. The tournament serves as a critical qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with four Olympic spots available based on the results of the competition.

The women’s team enters the tournament ranked number one in the world, following titles at the 2025 World Games and the IFAF Americas Continental Championship. Led by prominent player Diana Flores, the squad aims to reclaim the world title they previously held in 2004, 2008, and 2012. Their group stage matches include Germany, Italy, and Slovenia.

The men’s team, currently ranked third globally, competes in Group C against Germany, Switzerland, and Brazil. Among the roster is Javier Vivian Quintero, a player from Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, who secured his place on the national team following previous pre-selection attempts and international experience in Panama.
