Mexico flag football teams win opening matches at World Championship
The Mexican national flag football teams have begun their campaign at the 2026 World Championship in Düsseldorf, Germany, with the goal of securing qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. This edition of the tournament serves as a direct qualifier, offering four spots per gender.
The women’s team, currently ranked number one globally by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), started with two dominant victories. They defeated host nation Germany 38-14 and followed with a 53-24 win against Slovenia, placing them at the top of Group A.
The men’s team, ranked third in the world, also secured two consecutive wins to lead Group C. They defeated Germany 30-22 and beat Brazil 38-25. Both squads are positioned as strong contenders for both the world title and Olympic berths.
