Mexico forward Alexis Vega named to 2026 World Cup squad

Mexican forward Alexis Vega secured a place in the 26‑player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will host. After early promise with Toluca and a stint at Chivas, Vega returned to Toluca in 2023, reviving his form and becoming a key offensive player for the club. His performances earned him regular call‑ups to the national team, including participation in Qatar 2022 and a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Coach Javier Aguirre selected Vega for the upcoming tournament, noting his versatility to play on either wing, as a second striker, or as a central forward.

Vega, 28, now joins a Mexico squad that blends youth and experience as the nation prepares to compete on home soil. His inclusion is seen as a reward for his recent resurgence and a boost to the team's attacking options ahead of the World Cup.
