Mexico fuel market: Price adjustments and new regulatory proposals
Fuel prices in Mexico showed minor fluctuations on Thursday, September 24, 2026. According to PetroIntelligence, the average price for Regular (Magna) gasoline was 23.690 pesos per liter, Premium was 28.583 pesos, and diesel was 27.012 pesos. These changes represent very slight decreases across all categories compared to the previous day.
To support consumers, the Ministry of Finance (Hacienda) has increased tax stimuli for fuels. For the period of September 19 to September 25, the stimulus for Magna gasoline rose to 62.60 percent, providing a support of 4.2007 pesos per liter. The Premium gasoline stimulus also increased to 59.12 percent, equivalent to 3.3448 pesos per liter.
Separately, the Mexican gas station sector may face significant regulatory changes regarding Vapor Recovery Systems. An update to the Official Mexican Standard could expand requirements from approximately 3,000 service stations to 9,000. This would require nearly 6,000 additional stations to install equipment to capture emissions, potentially necessitating investments between 5 billion and 8 billion pesos.
