Mexico fuel prices: Profeco reports high Premium gasoline costs
Mexico's Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has detected service stations selling Premium gasoline for 30 pesos or more per liter. While Premium fuel is not part of the current national agreement with the gasoline sector, officials noted that the price is unjustified because Premium fuel also receives fiscal stimuli, similar to regular gasoline and diesel.
President Claudia Sheinbaum defended the government's use of tax reductions and agreements with fuel distributors to contain costs. She stated that without these fiscal supports, regular gasoline would exceed 30 pesos per liter and diesel would surpass 35 pesos due to international market fluctuations. The administration intends to maintain oversight to ensure that international price variations are not passed directly to Mexican consumers.
