Mexico fulfills water delivery obligations to the United States
Mexico has completed the delivery of approximately 431 million cubic meters (350,000 acre-feet) of water from the Rio Grande to the United States. This marks the conclusion of the first year of cycle 37 under the 1944 Water Treaty.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins confirmed the fulfillment of the minimum agreed volume, noting the collaboration with the administration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. However, Rollins indicated that work continues regarding ongoing deliveries and outstanding water debt, which remain critical concerns for farmers and ranchers in Texas.
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) stated that the delivery was managed through inter-institutional coordination despite a context of extreme drought. The SRE emphasized that the water management was conducted responsibly to ensure that the human right to water, community consumption, and food production in the border region were not compromised.
