Mexico health agencies warn of ciclosporiasis infections

Mexico's ISSSTE Campeche health agency issued an alert urging residents to stay vigilant for symptoms of ciclosporiasis, a parasitic infection caused by *Cyclospora cayetanensis* that can produce explosive watery diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever and rapid dehydration. The agency stressed that the parasite spreads through contaminated water or food and recommended thorough washing of produce, drinking only treated water, and rigorous hand‑washing. It urged anyone with persistent symptoms to seek medical care promptly, especially children, the elderly and those with chronic conditions.

The Jalisco Secretariat of Health also warned that, although no confirmed cases have been detected in the state, the disease has attracted attention following a recent outbreak in the United States. Secretary of Health Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez confirmed ongoing epidemiological monitoring and highlighted the risk posed by contaminated water supplies. Both agencies called for continued public hygiene measures to prevent potential spread.
