Mexico highway protests demand answers for missing students
Families in Mexico have organized road protests to demand information regarding the disappearance of several young women.
In Jalisco, relatives of Karina Guadalupe Castellanos Chavoya and Alondra Rubí Santos Estrada blocked the Chapala highway near Los Olivos. Both students from the University of Guadalajara’s Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos Regional Preparatory disappeared on September 10. The two students were classmates and members of the school’s cheerleading team. Their families are seeking progress in investigations, including the review of surveillance footage.
In Mexico City, protesters blocked the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway for approximately three hours near San Miguel Topilejo in the Tlalpan borough. The demonstration was held to demand the intensification of search efforts for 16-year-old Estefany Garduño Olmos, who was last seen on October 1 in the same area. The blockade caused significant traffic disruptions before authorities reported that circulation was gradually being restored.
